In addition to the fiber laserscanner, the Falcon II is equipped with an RGB/NIR line scanner which simultaneously records image data. The uppermost objectives in this connection are gaining additional spectral information on the covered areas for simplifying and automating the data evaluation, as well as the classification of terrain and objects.
The RGB/NIR line scanner provides digital information acquisition by means of CCD sensors in four spectral channels at a time:
  • Blue                        450 nm - 490 nm
  • Green                     500 nm - 580 nm
  • Red                        580 nm - 660 nm
  • Near infrared          770 nm - 890 nm

Thanks to this concept, both the RGB and CIR images can be generated after flight.
The RGB/NIR line scanner is equipped with an electronic shutter. A fast control algorithm automatically sets the exposure time for optimum sensor control at all times. High sensitivity and a wide dynamic range allow high-quality image data to be recorded even in mediocre light conditions.
The connected computer is capable of saving up to 330 image lines per second.
