Corridor Mapping
The use of laserscanning technology by the power supply industry is gaining in momentum for the documentation, surveying and monitoring of overhead networks. Installed in a helicopter flying at low speed over the line corridor at 400 m above ground, the TopoSys system records not only the ground height and surface, but also the coordinates of the elements of the overhead lines. The route taken by the cable, the position of the towers, the terrain, vegetation and other objects in the line corridor are scanned in the course of a single flight line.

The TopoSys elevation models and true ortho images serve as the basic data for:
  • Surveying, documentation and monitoring line corridors including the elements of the overhead line and objects in the corridor
  • Planning, set-up and maintenance of an overhead network
  • Vectorizing the lines
  • Determining the center points of towers, suspension points and sag of the cables
  • Management in a line information system
  • Investigating distances between vegetation and lines

Integrated in a GIS, the distances between vegetation and lines can be determined, serving as the basis for vegetation control and management plans. The high-resolution CIR and RGB true ortho images assist the evaluation of vegetation in the line corridor.

For overhead line, pipeline, road and rail route-planning purposes, the potential strips of terrain can be accurately recorded and the level determined. TopoSys data permits optimizing routes, creating sections, aligning plot boundaries and hence cost-effective planning and analysis.
